Texas ACE Programs Celebrates a Legend

By Mike Villarreal

The Santa Rosa ISD Texas ACE Program recently celebrated and learned about culture and heritage through various activities, including a student talent show. The event also paid tribute to the legacy of Selena, known as “La Reina De Tejano,” whose music and achievements continue to inspire people today.

The ACE students showcased their talents and entertained the audience, while families showed their love and support. This community event was a great success, thanks to everyone who participated. We can’t wait to see what the Santa Rosa Texas ACE program has in store for us next.

Selena Quintanilla was a legendary artist who was famous for her Tejano music. She started singing at a young age with her family band, Selena Y Los Dinos and went on to produce many albums under indie and major labels. Selena’s music style combined Mexican, western, and country influences, making it unique and popular.

In 1989, Selena performed at the Tejano Music Awards, which caught the attention of music executive Jose Behar, who signed her as a solo artist to the EMI label. Selena released five studio albums and one live album between 1989 and 1995. Even after her untimely death, Selena’s music continues to touch people’s hearts and inspire new generations.

As someone who grew up listening to Selena’s music, I feel blessed to have been a part of that era. I remember watching her on TV shows and attending her concert in McAllen, Texas. Despite the tears in my eyes as I write this, I am grateful for the beautiful memories that Selena’s music has given me. Selena’s memory will always live on in our hearts, as she remains one of the best-selling female Latin artists of all time and an inspiration for future generations.
