LFECHS Non-Varsity Band Represents at State

The La Feria Early College High School Non-Varsity Band, under the direction of Jaime Flores, has qualified for the State-level competition in the Outstanding Performance Series for the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB).
ATSSB is an organization that supports small school bands in Texas, aiming to cater to the needs of students, parents, directors, and administrators of small school bands. It was established in 1991 after several failed attempts and discussions dating back to 1981.
The organization’s genesis can be traced back to a proposal made by Lonnie Dooley at a Texas Music Educators Association Executive Board meeting in 1981. The proposal was initially voted down; however, after multiple attempts and discussions within the TMEA, ATSSB was created.
The ATSSB holds auditions, clinics, and events separately from the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), allowing small school bands to have their own platform while also later aligning some audition procedures with TMEA.
Overall, ATSSB has effectively served the interests of small school bands, providing opportunities and resources for students and educators across the state.
