Exploring Careers Through Virtual Reality
- Updated: September 17, 2025

Workforce Solutions utilizes virtual reality (VR) technology to provide immersive career exploration and job training simulations for students and job seekers. This allows users to experience real-life job scenarios and acquire skills in various fields, including construction, engineering, and healthcare, all within a safe and controlled environment.
These VR technologies are delivered through partnerships with companies like Transfr and are implemented by various Texas Workforce Solutions boards. The goal is to help individuals make informed career choices, explore various job pathways, and upskill for new career opportunities.
Recently, Students at Santa Maria ISD had the chance to explore over 40 career paths through the Virtual reality program. These simulations offered a hands-on look into high-demand industries.
Participants wear VR headsets to experience 360-degree, interactive simulations of real-world job environments. The simulations allow users to practice skills and gain hands-on experience in fields they might not otherwise access, such as working on power lines or as a first responder. By simulating different careers, individuals can determine if a job is a good fit for their interests and abilities, leading to better career choices.
Through VR headsets, users can gain insights into a wide range of jobs, making it easier for job seekers to identify suitable career paths. This innovative approach is available in Texas through programs like the Texas Workforce Commission’s (TWC) VR program, which also supports individuals with disabilities in securing employment.
