Ten-Ten Grocery – “a small story, about a small store, in a small town, went all over the world”
- Updated: October 18, 2013
Hello to the La Feria News!
On August 31, I shut the door to my store –Ten-Ten Grocery- in Mercedes after 45 years of ownership. Your paper ran a nice story about my store on September 11 written by Mr. William Keltner. It was a real news event all over the world. From the first day the story went to the public, a storm of calls started. We got e-mails, tweets and calls from all over the Valley, the States and even from Germany, Hawaii, Japan, Alaska and lots of other countries. The world turns at a set speed, but news travels at the speed of sound.
A small story, about a small store, in a small town, went all over the world in about 48 hours. Even today, I have had calls and people still stop at the store to take a picture and get one last look at the old “Ten-Ten”. We have had over 100 calls of different types since the paper went public.
Thanks a lot!!
– Charles G. Bertholf, Mercedes,Tx
P.S. Mr. Keltner did a great job and his idea about the store was a nice finish to 45 years of hard work
