La Feria ISD Literacy Bus Returns This Summer

By Mike Villarreal

La Feria ISD has introduced an innovative initiative to foster literacy among its students and the wider community through the return of the District Literacy Bus this summer. This unique venture involves transforming a traditional school bus into a vibrant “Library on Wheels” designed to promote reading and literacy.

The eye-catching exterior of the Literacy Bus is a testament to its vibrant and inviting nature, perfectly complementing the interior library space where students can immerse themselves in a world of books and engaging activities. This mobile library serves as a testament to the district’s unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of literacy and learning.

Throughout the summer, the Literacy Bus will make scheduled stops in various neighborhoods, facilitating access to books and educational resources. It has already made impactful visits to locations such as El Centro Foods, Adams Gardens, Hickory Hills, and the Rec Center/Sports Complex, and is set to continue its journey through the community. Upcoming scheduled stops include Fleetwood Trailer Park and Sunflower Apartments on June 10th, followed by visits to the trailers on Parker Rd on June 12th, and Ken-La and Adams Gardens on June 24th. On June 25th, the Literacy Bus will be stationed at El Centro Foods parking lot and the City Park, extending its reach to offer a wealth of reading materials to eager learners.
In addition to these engaging community stops, La Feria ISD Family and Community Engagement is organizing an upcoming Literacy Night Bash on June 18th. Held at the Lee Facility situated at 400 S. West Street, this event promises to be an immersive experience for families and children alike. From 5:30 p.m. onwards, attendees can enjoy complimentary refreshments, access to an assortment of books, and exciting door prizes.

The event will also feature interactive elements such as business/church stands, lively music, engaging games, creative arts & crafts activities, bouncers, and even a delightful train ride for children, ensuring an enjoyable and enriching experience for all.
