La Feria ISD Diabetes Awareness Walk
- Updated: December 8, 2022
Ending the Month of November, the La Feria ISD held their Annual Community Diabetes Walk on Tuesday November 9 at the La Feria High School Stadium. They had high blood pressure readings, nutrition & dietary education, free snacks and giveaways. For those who don’t know November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. According to the International Diabetes Federation, “Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas is no longer able to make insulin, or when the body cannot make good use of the insulin it produces.” Making everyone aware is a way to let people know that diabetes hits millions of people around the world and many aren’t aware of the many resources that are available so it’s best to get educated on the matter. If you’re at risk of developing diabetes, it starts with a simple test. There are 3 different types of diabetes which are Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational diabetes. So, it’s best to make sure that all those around us are aware and educated on the risks involved all year round.
