La Feria ISD Competes in Chess Tournament

Congratulations to all of the La Feria ISD chess students that competed this weekend. The LFHS Chess team won 6th place with a JV team trophy and 9th place High School team trophy at the HHS Regional Chess Tournament.

Deston Vazquez – 3rd place / JV
Alvino Flores- 13th place /JV
Sebastian Flores- 6th place / HS

The LFHS students will represent La Feria High in the 2023 Texas State Scholastic Chess Championships next month.

The Vail Chess Dragons and Sanchez White Bishops chess teams competed in the Texas Regionals competition last weekend and faced over 300 competitors from all over the Rio Grande Valley during this two-day event.

Bryanah Rodriguez from Sanchez, who placed 19th in the Primary JV section, and also qualified for State! Congratulations Bryanah!

From La Feria ISD:
Third Grade
The 3rd-grade students from Vail won 6th place overall in the Primary JV Division. Those students are: Sebastian Rivera, Domnick Lopez, Noah Lara, and Kasen Gehr. Special recognition goes to Kasen Gehr who beat 6 out of 7 opponents to win 3rd place in the Primary JV division!
Fourth Grade

The 4th-grade students from Vail placed 17th place overall in the Elementary JV Division! We appreciate their mentorship and coaching of the third-grade students which was invaluable in helping them win the team trophy! Those students are: Zion Garcia, Ethan Lopez, Mason Parvin, and Arian Elizondo.

Sanchez
The Sanchez White Bishops placed 14th overall in both the Elementary JV Division and the Primary JV Division! Special Recognition to Bryanah Rodriguez for winning 19th place overall in the Primary JV Division! The students who competed in the Primary JV division are Alexia Trujillo, Bryanah Rodriguez, and Aria Garza. The Elementary JV team is Aurora Garza, Alexia Perez, Leonardo Arrizola 111,
Kaleb Chavarria, Sophia Lopez, Dakoda Garcia, and Joie Fuentes.

La Feria ISD shares that, “Both Teams wish to thank their administrators, teachers, and parents for their support and encouragement. We couldn’t do it without you!
