The Santa Rosa Warriors hosted their 7th Annual Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, January 9, marking another successful event for the Rio Grande Valley’s powerlifting community. The meet saw over 220 lifters from 14 schools compete in a thrilling display of strength and determination.
At the end of it, the Donna Redskins emerged as the dominant force, clinching both the Male and Female division titles. Meanwhile, the Santa Rosa Warriors showcased their talent and resilience, with standout performances from some of Santa Rosa’s Senior Class Powerlifters. seniors Kaley Cruz, JJ Anaya, and Carlos Medrano. Kaley Cruz triumphed in the 123-pound division, while Carlos Medrano secured an impressive second place in the 148-pound category.
A Platform for Growth
Head Coach Joe Marichilar expressed pride in his team and the event’s overall success.
“This year, we have a mixture of experience and youth. The older Warriors are expected to make the journey to State again, while the young Warriors learn the process of becoming Ultimate Warriors,” Marichilar shared.
For many competitors, the meet was more than just a chance to test their limits; it was an opportunity to build camaraderie, set goals, and embrace the Warrior mentality.
