The La Feria Lions are in the final preparations as they are set to begin the 2021-2022 soccer season. After finishing 3rd in the district with an overall record of 3-6-1 and a district record of 3-4 last season, The Lions look to make a serious run towards the postseason in 2022. La Feria clinched a playoff spot last season, suffering a loss to Hidalgo in the Bi-District round.

La Feria will compete in a non-district tournament where they are slated to face off against 32-6A’s Brownsville Hanna and Weslaco. District Play is set to kick off January 28 on the road against Port Isabel. The Lions face the Tarpons again on February 22. Other key District matchups include Rio Hondo on February 15 and March 11 to close out the season. The Lions also will take on the Riverview Rockets on February 11 and March 8. La Feria lost both meetings against the Rockets last season and looks to return the favor this season.

What starts off as a tough non-district calendar that transitions into a tough district schedule in 32-4A, The La Feria Lions are determined to turn around last season and kick-off 2022 with big wins over 6A powerhouses. La Feria’s challenges in district play are going against Riverview, who swept the Lions last season, and Rio Hondo, who they last played in the 2019-2020 season. Although a while since they faced off, both teams met three times in that season. La Feria won two of the three meetings, including a win in extra time in the third game and a last-second goal in the first game. Against Riverview, the Lions last beat the Rockets in January of 2020. However, the last three meetings have gone to Riverview.

While The Lions have some tough and exciting matchups in 2022, La Feria looks to make a statement and not only aim for a playoff run, but also a District Title.
