City Commission Meeting Workshop

On Tuesday, February 14th, the City held a City Commission Meeting workshop. This workshop presentation was regarding Mobile Food Vendors. The presentation was led by Bryce Cox, a planner whom Allison Bastian-Rodriguez, a legal council member serving for special board meetings, brought in via Zoom. Mr. Cox shared with the City Council a walk-through of the different requirements and regulations necessary to have Food Trucks with respect to their category.
Cox explains the three types of mobile food vending being, the first type is a mobile food vending court. This is simply a land dedicated solely to a food truck park. The second is accessory mobile food vending, which is where there is an already established use of business and the business wants to simply allow an accessory business. This might be a bar or coffee shop where they might want food available as well, and the third category is Special Event Exception. This would be for one type of deal.
In all three Mr. Cox went into detail to share the requirement for these to meet the safety and proper regulations to be legal. Along with any Health and Sanitation requirements, inspections, and sharing that any mobile vendors have to be mobile 24/7; readily movable at all times. Afterward, Cox left it open for any questions or clarifications that might need to be addressed.
The Reasoning for this Meeting
Mayor Maldonado shares that she’s heard many people have been asking about having food trucks. Maldonado explains, “You want to do things the right way,” and that seemed to be the purpose of the presentation is hearing the community and educating the City and Planning & Zoning department on the requirements for these types of things. Maldonado mentions the importance of health and sanitation inspections. “For the protection of whoever eats there,”
“We’re not telling people we’re not interested,” Maldonado says, “We’re telling people there’s a process that needs to be done, and we need to ensure your safety, as well as the people [vendors], are serving”
