La Feria ISD Celebrates Red Ribbon Week

By LFN Staff

Last week the La Feria ISD along with other schools across the country celebrated Red Ribbon. October also happens to be Youth Substance Use Prevention Month and Substance Misuse Prevention Month. This year’s theme is “Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free. ™” -NFP. Each year the National Family Partnership (NFP) holds a Red Ribbon Week theme contest in which this year Danielle Helm, a Youth Service Coordinator was this year’s contest winner. Red Ribbon Week is all about empowering our youth with knowledge and learning to make the right decisions.

Schools hold special events, presentations, contests, and more to help educate our youth on the dangers of drug abuse. Last week Noemi Dominguez had a visit from the La Feria PD. They were there to give a presentation on the dangers of drugs. W.B. Green Jr. High also had a presentation given by the Homeland Security Investigations Harlingen office on the dangers of social media and Fentanyl.

Also, at the La Feria Early College High School the Mesquite Treatment Center, LLC gave a presentation for parents and kids on the dangers of Fentanyl as October has been designated as Fentanyl Awareness Month. Students need to know at a young age the harm that drugs can cause. We need to continue encouraging our youth to stay focused on their education and their dreams and always remember to Just say NO to drugs!
